Bob Jones band heading to Indiana for Bands of America Grand National Championships
They will be the only band from Alabama competing this year in the prestigious competition
MADISON – The Bob Jones High School Band is making school history this week. They will leave this morning to compete at the Bands of America Grand National Championships, a first for the Madison high school. They will also be the only band from Alabama competing this year.
The competition boosts 113 bands from 20 different states competing in Indianapolis, IN.
The Bob Jones 2024 program is called “Mama Always Said” in dedication to the 30th anniversary of the movie Forrest Gump. The show focuses on Forrest’s memorable life but also his special relationship to his mother.
“The BJHS band is excited to embark on this historic journey and also to represent our great state of Alabama by performing a show referencing one of its most famous cinematic characters,” stated a press release from the band.
The band is led by head band director Leigh Thomas.
A final run for parents, fans and media was held this morning at the high school before students boarded buses leaving the school bound for Indiana. The Madison Record will have more about this prestigious opportunity for the band and their results in Wednesday’s issue of The Madison Record.
