Bob Jones holds off Sparkman on the road
HARVEST – The October sky was a fading orange as the last of the sun tucked behind the dark trees that surrounded Sparkman High School’s football stadium on Friday night.
The tapping of the drumline warming up before the game reverberated from near the field as the teams warmed up.
The Senators’ old foe Bob Jones was here for a classic showdown between a pair of 3-3 teams.
The energy was surprisingly muted for a matchup of this scale, but maybe that was because Bob Jones’ focus of distain had centered more on James Clemens of late instead of Sparkman.
Whatever the case may be, this game offered a choppy progression that saw both sides have moments of glory followed by ugly mistakes that appeared to doom them.
The Patriots were able to come out on top 56-37 in a road game that featured up and down play by the pair.
One memorable sequence in the game came with 3:17 remaining in the first half with Bob Jones trailing Sparkman 10-7.
The Patriots were facing a fourth down and were able to convert with a carry to move the sticks.
Fresh off the fourth down conversion, Bob Jones went back to the well with another run with Samuel Monroe who slashed past the defense and down the field 44 yards for the remarkable touchdown that handed the Patriots the 14-10 lead.
This game was absolutely packed full of crazy moments by both sides that created plenty of action for the fans.
