Sparkman scores three wins in a row with 31-7 rout over Mae Jemison
The Senators set their sights on tackling Bob Jones next week
HUNTSVILLE – Jabari Davis scored a career-best three rushing touchdowns; Jemarius Matthews led a swarming defense with a sack and three tackles for losses and Sparkman defeated host Mae Jemison on a rain-drenched Thursday night in the Rocket City.
The final – 31-7 – gave the Senators their third straight win after an 0-3 start to the season and left them feeling confident with archrival Bob Jones up next.
Class 7A Sparkman improved to 3-3 in the non-region game, while 6A Jemison fell to 2-4. The Patriots are the first opponent of four straight in Region 4 play to end the regular season. James Clemens, Grissom and Florence follow on the schedule.
“We just went three-and-oh,’’ Senators junior defensive lineman/edge Jamarius Matthews said as the team put an 0-3 beginning in the rearview mirror. “We’re just looking to continue the win streak and just keep going. We’ve got the region now. We’ve got Bob Jones (to start thinking about Friday). It’s gonna be a big game, a good game between us two. So, we’re just looking to win that game and go forward now.’’
Davis scored on runs of 3, 4 and 11 yards. Bob Jones trailed 7-0 after one quarter, led 14-7 at halftime and 21-7 entering the fourth.
On a wet night that limited offenses in the passing game, Sparkman outgained the Jaguars 209-135 with 177 yards coming on the ground.
Jemison got a 2-yard TD run by Tavarian Moore-Langford in the opening quarter.
Sparkman also got a 10-yard score from sophomore Keaton Williams to senior Jonathan Rozier and senior David Faulk kicked a 33-yard field goal. Junior Emmanuel Armstong had an interception for the Senators.
The Jaguars were penalized 15 times for 164 yards, including eight times for 15. The Senators were flagged nine times for 70 yards.
