Bob Jones bests Central-Phenix City in opening game of State Championship

The Bob Jones Patriots took the first game of the 7A State Championship against Central – Phenix City 6-1 on Tuesday in at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.

The Patriots turned to their ace pitcher Braden Booth who tossed seven innings where he allowed one run with two hits, a pair of walks with seven strikeouts in the victory.

Booth also led the way for Bob Jones in the batter’s box with a 2 for 4 day that included a home run.

The Patriots also had some quality offensive contributions from the left fielder Myles Hammonds who was 2 for 3 hitting with an RBI and two runs scored.

Bob Jones got a run in the top of the first inning for a quick 1-0 advantage.

Four more runs in the top of the second inning padded that Patriot edge significantly at 5-0.

Bob Jones would add a sixth and final fun in the top of the fourth inning to possess at strong 6-0 lead as the Red Devils were only able to manage one run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The State Championship resumes tomorrow afternoon from Jacksonville State with Game 2 slated for Wednesday at 4 p.m. while Game 3, if necessary, will be played later that night at 6:30 p.m.
