Bob Jones’ population fondly remembers Angela Mooney

MADISON – Angela Mooney pursued her love for learning as a French teacher at Discovery and Liberty middle schools before joining the faculty at Bob Jones High School more than 20 years ago.

Ms. Mooney passed away on March 16 after complications from open-heart surgery in Birmingham.

“Those who knew Angela will always remember her warm and welcoming nature. She had an infectious smile and laughter that could brighten anyone’s day. Her capacity for empathy and compassion made her fiercely protective of her family, friends and students.” (legacychapelfunerals.com/obituaries/angela-mooney)

“Angela’s inner strength was unparalleled, and she always stood up for those who needed a voice,” according to her biography from Legacy Chapel funeral home.

She is survived by husband Chris; son Logan and daughters Brianna and Kendall who attend Madison City Schools; and sister Tabitha and brother-in-law Chris. Other relatives are nieces Kaitlyn and Addison, nephew Brandon, mother Judy, father William, stepmother Barbara, father-in-law James, mother-in-law Dianne and brother-in-law Clay, plus his wife and children.

Ms. Mooney was born on June 15, 1977, in Tacoma, Wash., to parents William and Judy Pennington. In 1995, she graduated from S.R. Butler High School in Huntsville.

At the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Ms. Mooney received a bachelor’s degree in French and international trade. She earned a master’s degree in French studies at Auburn University and a master’s degree in foreign language education for French at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Starting her time at Bob Jones in 2003, she shared her expertise in the French language in the classroom, as well as serving as department chair for many years. Ms. Mooney taught the gamut of French classes, from first year to advance-placement study.

She filled the role of faculty representative for Bob Jones Boys Soccer Team and faculty sponsor for French Club and the French Honor Society.

Reading and traveling were two favorite pastimes.

Outside the classroom, Ms. Mooney kept a busy schedule with Logan, Brianna and Kendall’s commitments to soccer, basketball, art, dance and gymnastics. “I wouldn’t have it any other way,” she said. (madisoncity.k12.al.us/bjhs)
