Police say scammers are spoofing city phone number, calling residents to ask for personal information
The Madison Police Department said Tuesday they have been made aware individuals are purporting to be city officials and calling citizens asking questions about drivers licenses and passports. “They are spoofing the non-emergency line for police and asking about monetary assets,” a post on the Madison Police Facebook page stated. “No Madison Police Department employee will call and ask for your personal information.”
The Madison Police said concerned citizens can call 256-722-7190 to verify the identity of anyone who identifies themself as a Madison Police officer.
