Jets grounded by undefeated Muscle Shoals

MADISON — James Clemens Football (4-2) was handed its second loss of the season with a 42-28 home defeat to Muscle Shoals (5-0) on Friday.

The Jets struggled to keep pace with an explosive Trojan team that used solid defense and a methodical offense to keep the game out of reach.

Two interceptions by James Clemens quarterback Ty Marsh along with some special teams’ mistakes by the Jets added up as the boys in blue watched the game slip away.

It was a contest that appeared to be a shootout from the beginning as James Clemens return man Devon Cooper took the ball 84 yards for the touchdown.

Muscle Shoals had moments to take Cooper down, but the Jet slid out of harm’s way with some shifty moves.

Cooper found the left sideline and was building speed as the Trojans scrambled to flag the Jets player down.

There was a moment when it looked like Muscle Shoals was just going to run Cooper out of bounds, but the returner hurdled a defender to stay upright as his jet-blue uniform rippled in his wake.

The kickoff return gave James Clemens the instant 7-0 lead, but it would be short-lived as Muscle Shoals was prepared to make it a long night for the Jets.

Next week is yet another tough test as James Clemens will play host to Sparkman (5-0) at Madison City Stadium on Friday.
