Rocket City trudges through the final weeks of season, begins final home series this week

MADISON – The Rocket City Trash Pandas faced off against the Mississippi Braves (22-35) last week as the season winds down in its final two weeks.

The Trash Pandas (26-31) remain locked in the third-place spot in the Southern League North Standings six games behind the league-leading Tennessee Smokies (32-25).

The Chattanooga Lookouts (30-27) currently sit in second place two games out of first while the Birmingham Barons (21-36) are in last place at 11 games back.

August 29: Rocket City 3, Mississippi 0 (Game 1)

The Trash Pandas took the opening contest of the series by shutting out the Braves in a game that was originally supposed to be played on August 13 before it was suspended.

August 29: Mississippi 6, Rocket City 5 (Game 2)

It would take a Drew Campbell walkoff single in the eighth inning of a doubleheader for the Braves to claim the second game on Tuesday.

August 30: Mississippi 3, Rocket City 2

Late-inning Trash Panda miscues in the form of a balk in the sixth inning and a wild pitch in the eighth inning allowed Mississippi to rally and steal the Wednesday game.

August 31: Rocket City 2, Mississippi 1 (10 innings)

A pair of runs in the top of the tenth inning would be enough for the Trash Pandas to hold on for a one-run victory.

September 1: Mississippi 5, Rocket City 2

A passed ball by Rocket City catcher Tyler Payne proved costly as the Braves scored the go-ahead run and it would be all they needed to earn the win on Friday.

September 2: Rocket City 4, Mississippi 2

The Trash Pandas bested the Braves on Saturday thanks to an RBI single by D’Shawn Knowles that drove in Gabe Matthews in the top of the eighth inning.

September 3: Mississippi 6, Rocket City 0

Rocket City was blanked on Sunday in the finale as Mississippi scored six runs while only collecting five hits.

The Trash Pandas are back at Toyota Field for their final homestand of the season where they welcome the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (29-27) to the diamond.

Wednesday’s game is an 11:05 a.m. first pitch on Education Day while the games on Thursday through Saturday all begin at 6:35 p.m.

The Sunday finale with Pensacola is scheduled for 2:35 p.m.
