Madison Lions Club gives eye screening at health fair

MADISON – A local service club is continuing its signature mission to help children and adults have a brighter view of their world.

Madison Area Family Lions Club members visited the Health Fair at Sherwood Baptist Church to conduct eye screening on May 20. During the event, club members assisted people who were interested in the ‘check-up.’

“We were pleased to assist the Sherwood Baptist Church with their Health Fair,” Lion member Cheryl Emich. “It is important to have your eyes checked, and this screening event allows us to provide this service to those interested individuals.”

Club members screened approximately 14 adults and three children during the Health Fair. “Conducting eye screening events is just one aspect of the Lion Club’s service projects, and we appreciate the opportunity to serve our community,” Emich said.

Another vision service that Madison Area Family Lions Club supports is the collection of used eyeglasses with the Lions Recycle for Sight program. Lions members confirm that the collected eyeglasses are cleaned and then prepared for distribution in developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible.

Residents can do their part in supporting the Lions outreach by contributing eyeglasses that are no longer used or needed in the collection boxes at various locations in Madison and Huntsville.

“The Madison Area Family Lions Club is always looking for new members who want to serve their community. The club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at Dublin Park’s meeting room at 6 p.m. Lions clubs are a recognized service organization that identify needs within their community and work together to fulfill those needs,” Emich said.

For more information or to get involved with this club, email Tony Villamil at madisonlionsclub@gmail.com or visit Facebook/Madison Area Family Lions Club.
