Central Office chooses Sellers as top staff member

MADISON – The Central Office employees for Madison City Schools decided on Sandi Sellers as “2023 Staff Member of the Year.”

Sellers works as Secretary for the Special Education Department. “I was honored just to be nominated but was shocked when I won,” she said.

Sellers started working for MCS in August 2010. “Before that time, I worked at Madison Church of Christ in their preschool for 10 years,” she said.

As a paraprofessional, Sellers has worked at Mill Creek and Rainbow elementary schools in a transitional Kindergartenfirst-grade classroom. She also worked as an attendance clerk at Bob Jones High School for 18 months.

“Moving to Central Office was very difficult. There was a steep learning curve, but I feel like I have grown so much in the past year,” Sellers said.

“Has it been easy? Definitely not, but I am proud of my determination to learn the details of this job. Plus, I love being back with my Special Education peeps,” she said.

“I try and live by the Golden Rule. I try and treat everyone the way I would want to be treated,” Sellers said. “If I can make someone’s day a little brighter, I have been successful.”

Sellers grew up in Atlanta. She attended Harding University in Searcy, Ark. She met her husband, Ken, in Atlanta, where they lived for 11 years. “We moved to Madison 23 years ago and have been blessed to raise my family here,” she said.

The Sellers have been married for 34 years. Ken retired from Baron Services. Their son, Steve, is a 2011 Bob Jones graduate and a 2016 Auburn University graduate. Steve works as Warehouse Supervisor for CED in Decatur. Their daughter, Allison, is a 2016 graduate of James Clemens High School and a 2021 graduate of the University of North Alabama. Allison works as a kindergarten teacher at Rainbow Elementary School. Steve and Allison both live in Huntsville.

“I have taught four-year-olds at my church, Madison Church of Christ, for almost 20 years! I even taught them on Zoom during the pandemic. Now that was an experience!” Sandi said.

In her free time, Sandi enjoys walking with Ken around their neighborhood and “sitting on the couch watching Netflix.”
