Local teams advance in state playoffs today, Bob Jones and James Clemens enter regionals Thursday
Local high school teams who advanced from their area tournaments last week have been keeping the court hot this week, and there is a lot more to come.
Class 7A
Sparkman High Schools girls were a big winner today. The Lady Senators got the 61-41 win over Chelsea in the semi-regionals to advance to the 7A Elite 8. They will take on Hewitt-Trussville, who knocked off Huntsville today. Tip-off for the Northeast Regional finals will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. in Jacksonville.
The Bob Jones Lady Patriots will take on Vestavia Hills to open the Northwest Regional at Wallace State in Hanceville tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. James Clemens will face Hoover at noon.

The Huntsville boys team advanced to the region finals after defeating Oak Mountain today 68-32 at Jacksonville. They will return Tuesday to face Spain Park at 10:30 a.m. Spain Park narrowly eliminated Sparkman today, 37-29, in the second overtime.
Bob Jones is expected to play Vestavia Hills at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace State for the boys Northwest Regional semi-finals.
Class 5A
The Madison Academy boys and girls basketball teams swept Lawrence County at home on Tuesday, the boys winning 71-30 and the girls winning 54-35 as both Mustangs teams punch their tickets to the Class 5A regionals.
The Madison Academy girls will play Jasper in the Northwest Regional semi-final at Wallace State on Monday, Feb. 20, at noon. The boys will face Ramsey Monday at 1:30 p.m.
Class 4A
The St. John Paul II High School girls team will advance to the Northwest Regional semi-finals on Saturday after downing Rogers on Monday. They will face Priceville at 3 p.m. in Hanceville.
Westminster Christian boys will also play Saturday in the regional semi-finals. They will take on Haleyville at 4:30 p.m.
