Adam Bass Named To Athletic Hall Of Fame

MADISON- As a project lead at Intuitive, one of the leading engineering and technical service companies in Huntsville, Adam Bass directs a 15-member team on a multi-million government contract. He has been with the company with solutions for 11 years. Unless you ask him, most of his fellow employees are oblivious to his athletic background…until now.

Bass has been selected among the Class for 2023 of the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame and will be enshrined with the honor at ceremonies scheduled for April 10 at the Von Braun Center’s South Hall. He is among the dozen in the newest class of the Hall of Fame as the class represent nine different sports. Bass will be inducted as a baseball player.

“This certainly ranks right up there for sure among my life as I feel blessed to have the opportunities I’ve had to do a lot in my life,” said the 41-year old Bass. “Having played baseball has allowed me to have wonderful experiences I can never forget.”

Bass, son of Bill and Lanette Bass, grew up in Madison where he played at Madison’s Palmer Park under the guidance of his father who was always a coach of local youth teams in both baseball and basketball. Bass said of his days at Palmer Park, “It was a very small community back then and was certainly a lot of fun. Many friendships were made there and the honor of being chosen for the Athletic Hall of Fame allows me to think back to those days at Palmer Park.”

Upon graduating from the youth leagues at Palmer Park, Bass attended Madison Academy where he starred in both baseball and basketball for the Mustangs. The 6-foot-5 athlete signed to play collegiate baseball at UAH where he also earned his BS in finance in 2003. He would also earn his MBA from the elite university in 2012.

At UAH, he shined for the Chargers where he ranked first in the program’s history with 29 wins, 245 strikeouts, 282 innings pitched and games started with 42. He was among the top 10 in earned run average (3.57), complete games (11) and shutouts (2). Bass was a member of the 2001 team that won the Gulf South Conference Championship and was selected First Team All-GSC in both 2001 and 2003. In addition, he was a First Team All-South Region and Rawlings/ABCA Second Team All-American, not to mention being named to the GSC East Division First Team All-Decade for 2001-2010.

At the conclusion of his senior year at UAH Bass was selected in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball 2003 Amateur Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He would play professionally for six seasons reaching Triple-A teams with both the Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres organizations. He ended his professional career in 2008 after playing a season in Japan. His overall professional statistics include a 31-30 record over 87 starts on the mound. The right-handed pitcher was used as both a starter and reliver. His stops included Yakima, Lancaster, Tennessee, Tucson and Portland along with one season in Japan.

“Being named to the Hall of Fame is a cool honor as I never expected this to happen,” said Bass, who, with his wife, Erin, have three daughters, ages 5, 7 and 10. His parents still live in Madison and own The Flying Locksmith of Madison.

“I’ve had a lot of great opportunities in athletics and a lot of people poured their lives into my success and I can’t thank them enough,” added Bass. “What an honor this is.”
