Students, community vendors ready for Horizon Holiday Market

MADISON – Interest and anticipation are running high as student families prepare for the Horizon Holiday Market on Dec. 1.

The setup for the market is unique in that Horizon Elementary School students can sell their merchandise, along with professional vendors. Market hours will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Organizers first held the holiday market in 2021, and those volunteers expect to have a fantastic turnout for 2022. The market’s purpose is to showcase the Horizon family, both students and community, and to provide families with some holiday shopping while supporting small businesses.

The market has space for 13 student vendors and seven community vendors.

To generate interest, the market coordinators asked students, “Are you crafty? Do you sell wares? We’re looking for student vendors to have booths at our market.”

In suggesting ideas for products for students, market coordinators recommend jewelry (excluding bracelets, which have maxed out), artwork, sewn pieces, woodworking objects, slime, keychains and other handmade crafts.

Guidelines apply for student vendors. The students must be old enough for second grade or older. With a small amount of help from parents, the student must create the items for sale. Merchandise for sale should cost no more than $5. The student must have at least 10 items to sell at the market.

In addition, the student must commit to staying at the market for the full two hours, and parents must stay with their child vendor if the student is in second, third or fourth grade. Students can have a booth with one other student.

In addition to the sale, the market will include activities for families, such as a student holiday choir and making crafts. Families are welcome to browse and shop throughout the night. The shopping area will include booths for both student and adult vendors.

Booth sizes will be 8-feet square or 10-feet square. Vendors will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Vendors should sell only items listed on the application to avoid having duplicate merchandise and to confirm that vendors will have a good experience with sales.

Community (adult) vendors will pay $25 for the vendor fee, which is non-refundable. Application deadline is Nov. 20.

Student vendors from Discovery Middle School or Bob Jones High School will pay $5 for the vendor fee. Application deadline is Nov. 10.
