Manuel and Theresa Holstein show patriotism with American Resolute’s wooden flags

MADISON – One Madison family has shown their deep respect for the United States by founding a company that stands on patriotism . . . not just a gesture on Veterans Day but alive each day of the year.

During the midst of COVID-19 and political turmoil, Manual Holstein founded American Resolute to produce handcrafted, wooden flags. “I created American Resolute in my tiny garage. It started out as a hobby and turned it into a small business for American patriots. We build handcrafted American flags to display core values that we strive towards in this country,” he said.

“Each flag is so much more than a decoration,” Holstein said. He and his wife Theresa design and produce the wooden flags in memory of everyone who has paid the ultimate sacrifice — military and first responders alike.

American Resolute offers U.S. flags in various sizes and colors. The Holsteins have constructed a flag to honor each branch of the U.S. military.

“The Pledge of Allegiance” is etched into one flag variation. He has used symbols of military divisions to create flags with striking appearances; one example is the U.S. Marine Corps’ eagle, globe and anchor insignia.

Holstein has designs as tributes to police officers and first responders. Several products are chamfered with a symmetrical sloping edge.

American Resolute is a disabled Marine and law enforcement veteran family-owned business. Manuel Holstein retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1996 and retired from law enforcement in May 2019.

“I believe the American flag is one of the greatest symbols of our country,” he said. Our flag represents the American ideals of freedom and justice for all its citizens. The flag represents resilience and valor. Most of all, it represents the United States of America.”

“It’s personal for me,” Holstein said. “As a veteran who wore our nation’s uniform with pride, the wooden American flags that we make represent everything that our great country stands for.”

Flags are symbols of values that founded the United States. “Whether we agree or disagree politically, we’re all trying to help the same country. I’m honored to handcraft these beautiful wooden flags,” Holstein said.

“Symbols hold immense power . . . representing something much greater than itself,” Holstein said. “The American flag is too important to let fade away, with its values of equality, justice and freedom.

When viewed correctly, the flag “has the power to be a symbol of these ideals. A symbol that doesn’t divide us in times of difficulty but one that we can rally around in times of difficulty,” Holstein said.
