School calendar approved for 2022-2023

MADISON – Madison Board of Education recently approved a revised version of the 2022-2023 School Year Calendar for Madison City Schools.

There “were a few changes to address the required testing at our high schools and to enhance collaborative professional development for our staff and teachers,” MCS Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols said.

Sept. 2 will be a Teacher Collaborative Day, which means a half-day attendance for all students. This scheduling gives an extended weekend because the Labor Day holiday will be observed on Sept. 5; all schools will be closed.

Sept. 30 will mark the end of first nine weeks.

The MCS district will close for Fall Break on Oct. 3-7. Faculties and students will not attend classes.

A Teacher Collaborative Day is slated for Oct. 12, giving early dismissal for all students. Grades 10-11 will take PSAT, and grades 9 and 12 will pursue E-learning.

On Oct. 19, students in grades 9 and 10 will complete the Pre-ACT. Grades 11 and 12 will have E-learning.

All campuses will observe Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Teachers and students will have a full week off on Nov. 21-25 for Thanksgiving holidays. MCS employees will observe Nov. 23-25 for Thanksgiving.

A Teacher Collaborative Day on Dec. 15 will give students early dismissal. Dec. 16 will be the end of first semester; students attend only a half day. Students will observe Winter Holidays on Dec. 19 through Jan. 3, 2023; teachers return to school on Jan. 2, 2023.

Starting the New Year, Jan. 2, 2023 will be a holiday with the MCS district closed. On Jan. 3, 2023, teachers will pursue Professional Development/Workday. Classes will resume on Jan. 4, 2023. Schools will close on Jan. 16, 2023 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

Feb. 17, 2023 is scheduled for a Teacher Collaborative Day; students will attend a half day. Schools will close on Feb. 20, 2023 for Presidents’ Day.

March 10, 2023 will mark the end of the third nine weeks. Spring Break for students, teachers and employees is set for March 13-17, 2023.

On April 11, 2023, students in grade 11 will complete the ACT, while Grades 9, 10 and 12 will pursue E-Learning. A weather make-up day, if needed, is scheduled April 28, 2023.

Graduation Day for James Clemens and Bob Jones high schools will be May 15, 2023. A Teacher Collaborative Day is scheduled May 24, 2023; students will attend a half day. May 25, 2023 will end second semester; students will attend a half day. A Teacher Workday is set for May 26, 2023; students will not attend classes.

For MCS employees, Memorial Day Holiday will be observed on May 29. Juneteenth holiday occurs on June 19, 2023.

Dismissal times of half days will be 10:30 a.m. for pre-kindergarten; 11 a.m., elementary; and 11:45 a.m., secondary grades.
