Vote for orchestra’s music in future program

MADISON – Madison City Community Orchestra or MCCO is inviting fans and residents to help in selecting music for a future concert. Their contest for “June Madness Community Favorites Concert 2023” uses brackets like those that define “March Madness” teams.

“At this past Conductor’s Showcase summer concert, we had a fundraiser that enabled the community to help design our summer concert for 2023,” MCCO Director Sandy Weisner said.

“At our Conductor’s Showcase concert, we selected four of your favorites to play next summer at our June Madness Community Favorites concert. The selected pieces were “My Little Pony: The Movie” entered by Jeannette and Victor Vega; “The Sound of Music” entered by Sue DeFurio; “Bohemian Rhapsody” entered by Genie Riddle; and “Pirates of The Caribbean” entered by Anastasia Meidinger.

“For the next few months, we’ll have a ‘March-Madness”-type bracket contest to decide our remaining two pieces,” Weisner said.

“We have a bracket for both classical and pops for the community to vote on which pieces they like the best,” she said.

“Links for voting will be posted on our social media pages each Monday starting Aug. 29,” Weisner said. “Voting will use a Google Form, and the link will change each week.”

Weisner will announce winners at MCCO’s fall concert this year. That concert, “Musical Trick or Treat,” on Oct. 23 will have a good-natured slant on Halloween.

“If your favorite wasn’t picked, you still have a chance to influence what we play next summer. We’ve compiled two single-elimination, tournament-style brackets from the other entries,” Weisner said.

“You can pick your favorite songs each week. Follow us on social media so you don’t miss any of the fun! The final voting will take place at the ‘Musical Trick or Treat’ on Oct. 23,” Weisner said.
