Huntsville Ballet Company announces new season

HUNTSVILLE – A new season is underway for Huntsville Ballet Company or HBC with four major productions on the schedule.

HBC uses the power of dance to inspire and nurture the art of classical ballet through educational excellence, artistic achievement and outreach. The tone of each production varies to fulfill the audiences’ diverse tastes.

The organization will present “HBC Unplugged” on Oct. 21-23 at Dream Theatre Performing Arts Center, 3401 Holmes Ave. NW in Huntsville. This production is the world premiere of “Tumbleweed Suite” with choreography by Huntsville Ballet Artistic Director Phillip Otto.

Inspired by George Balanchine, this energetic new piece of choreography captures the spirit of the Old West by infusing classical ballet with traditional western themes and American folk dancing.

Performance times for “HBC Unplugged” will be Oct. 21, 7 p.m.; Oct. 22, 2 and 7 p.m.; and Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. Single tickets cost $35.

In HBC’s 54th annual production, “The Nutcracker” will include special guests from Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. In this enduring Huntsville tradition, Clara’s enchanting story comes to life at the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall with Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, masterful choreography, enchanting scenic designs, brilliant lighting and stunning costumes.

“The Nutcracker” showtimes will be Dec. 9, 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 10, 2 and 7:30 p.m.; and Dec. 11, 1 p.m. Tickets cost $45, orchestra; $40, loge; $35, balcony; and $150, ‘Sweet Seat Tickets.’ All student performers are registered HBC students.

The Dream Theatre will be the venue for “HBC Off-Stage.” HBC’s best will feature “Pas de Deux,” “Variations” and sections of popular works like “Stage Door Canteen” and “Romeo and Juliet.” The production also will include a new work.

Showtimes for “HBC Off-Stage” will be Feb. 17, 2023, 7 p.m.; Feb. 18, 2 and 7 p.m.; and February 19, 3 p.m. All single tickets cost $35.

In April 2023, HBC will present “Cinderella” in Mark C. Smith Concert Hall. Considered one of the most beautiful ballets of all time, “Cinderella” has a timeless story of majestic beauty, magical sets and enchanting costumes. Cinderella works as her evil stepsisters’ servant until her fairy godmother intervenes with a prince’s love.

Performances for “Cinderella” will be April 14, 7:30 p.m.; April 15, 2 and 7:30 p.m.; and April 16, 1 p.m. Single tickets cost $40 for orchestra; $37, loge; $33, balcony; and $150, ‘Sweet Seat Tickets.’

The public can buy single tickets starting Oct. 1. Following each performance, the dancers and director will participate in a question-and-answer session.
