MCS prepared with faculties, admins for new year

MADISON – In terms of employment statistics, Madison City Schools will start the new school year for 2022-2023 in much the same position as previous years.

Teachers and other certified positions have mostly been filled, but shortages remain in classified (or support) worker ranks, according to the MCS Personnel Department.

For this year, the Personnel Department reports MCS experienced 92 resignations (54 certified positions and 38 classified positions) and 25 retirements (17 certified, 8 classified).

Those stats compare to 145 resignations and 31 retirements in 2021, 94 resignations and 42 retirements in 2020 and 78 resignations and 22 retirements in 2019. Personnel records as of mid-July show Madison Board of Education’s approval of 139 employments, including 93 certified and 46 classified positions.

The Madison district continues with challenges to fill some specialized teaching positions. Many classified or non-certified positions remain open, such as bus drivers, CNP (cafeteria) workers, aides and other paraprofessionals, the Personnel Department said.

Certified positions also include administrators, counselors and others requiring state-sanctioned certifications. The Personnel Department will continue its outreach to fill positions through job fairs and recruiting drives.
