Huntsville Museum of Art offers free admission on Sunday, July 3

HUNTSVILLE – The Huntsville Museum of Art (HMA) will offer free admission to all guests on Sunday, July 3 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. HMA invites the public to view, Beauty, Passion & Bliss: 19th Century Masterworks from the Dahesh Museum of Art on the final day of the exhibition. Additionally, the Museum’s newest exhibition, Betty Grisham: A Celebration, will open on this day.

Beauty, Passion & Bliss: 19th Century Masterworks from the Dahesh Museum of Art is on display in the Huth, Boeing and Salmon galleries. Drawn from the rich collections of the Dahesh Museum of Art in New York City, the exhibition features an outstanding selection of paintings and sculptures that embody the 19th-century European academic tradition. There are historical, religious, and mythological paintings, as well as detailed genre scenes and works in Orientalism.

Betty Grisham: A Celebration is a memorial exhibition of artworks by beloved Huntsville artist and arts advocate Betty Grisham, who passed away last year at the venerable age of 99. Grisham’s art was often inspired by the colors and shapes of nature, interpreted through her lively imagination and confident use of abstraction. The Museum’s collection of 24 paintings, textiles, prints and collages exemplify her broad skill set.

Dorothea Lange’s America will also be on display during the free day. This exhibit features depression-era photography from one of America’s most influential documentary photographers, Dorothea Lange. The show has been a crowd-pleaser during its run.

“I always enjoy seeing so many friends and families touring the galleries, shopping at the museum store and enjoying a slice of pizza at Pane e Vino on Independence Day weekend,” said HMA Executive Director Christopher Madkour. “We appreciate all support from the residents of Huntsville, and this is our opportunity to show our gratitude.”

The Huntsville Museum of Art docents will host a tour of Beauty, Passion & Bliss at 2 p.m. This tour is also free to attend. Docents will be in the galleries throughout the afternoon to answer questions and provide insight into these exquisite works of art.
