Bob Jones Color Run continuing to accept donations in ‘Virtual 5K’

MADISON – Students will benefit from the Bob Jones Color Run, which served as a venue for people who enjoy the sport of running but in an even higher commitment for youth who study in Madison City Schools.

“What an amazing 5K Color Run hosted on May 1 by our student leaders, Cameron Cummings, who is in twelfth grade, and Bethany Stoots, who is in eleventh grade,” Bob Jones Assistant Principal Amy Thaxton said.

Cummings and Stoots partnered with Michelle Hyams and Best Buddies “to make this event happen,” Thaxton said. “Our Best Buddies Ambassador, Rylie Edwards, kicked off the race for us.”

“The student leaders had a wonderful vision that has allowed everyone to join in on welcoming our new students to the Special Education Wing at Bob Jones,” Thaxton said. “We want to thank everyone who came out.”

“Thank you to all our sponsors! Your love and support of our Patriots is greatly appreciated,” Thaxton said. “At this time, we have raised over $3,000 . . . but we aren’t done.”

“If you did not have a chance to run, make a donation and join our ‘Virtual 5K’ through May,” Thaxton said. To donate to the wing, visit madisoncityk12-al.leanstreamrp.com/district/need/561. In the new window, scroll down to the donation section, and type the dollar amount of your donation. Then, click “Donate Now.”

Then, determine a good route to run or walk a distance for the 5K. Next, log your time by the deadline on May 25 by visiting forms.gle/yAj1ocN36Ttv7JW78.

School officials will use the Color Run’s proceeds to buy needed furnishings to accommodate students in the Special Education Wing. Students in MCS’ feeder pattern for eastern Madison will attend class in the new wing.

Madison Board of Education approved a bid for $6.89 million to construct the new facility. The wing is located near the bus loop on the campus’ north.

Sponsors for the Color Run included AVNIK Defense Solutions, Signalink, Robin Cotten, NAHA, Lilly’s Day Coping with Autism, Now in the Works, Isa Hayes Photography, The Catalyst Center for Business & Entrepreneurship, Capabilitix and Johnson Pools.
