Cyber Huntsville hosts reception for James Clemens, Bob Jones teams

MADISON – Cyber Huntsville is planning to host a reception for CyberPatriot teams from James Clemens and Bob Jones high schools who have earned impressive awards.

The Madison students recently won regional or state honors during the CyberPatriot XIV competition.

Cyber Huntsville, a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization, promotes the advancement of cyber concerns and technology in Huntsville and Tennessee Valley.

The organization’s structure includes industry, government and academic institutions. These groups leverage Huntsville’s technical expertise and leadership to help with local, regional and national cyber challenges.

Both Bob Jones and James Clemens won or had strong finishes in various cyber competitions and will be honored at the Cyber Huntsville reception, according to Dr. Ed Nichols, Superintendent of Madison City Schools. He praised the students’ work in the cyber teams in his district update on March 11.

With the leadership of Coach Ginger Cochran, two teams from James Clemens finished first in their division: James Clemens JROTC and the Platinum Open Division team. In addition, James Clemens had a second- and third-place team in the Open Silver Division.

Madison teams proved their technical skills with numerous awards:

* James Clemens –First place in state, Open Division, Platinum. Ethan Li, Pranav Soma, Joshua Wang, Jeremiah Yang and Jerry Zheng. This team advanced to semi-finals and finished in the top 100 teams nationally.

* James Clemens Delta Squad – First place in state, JROTC – Army, Platinum. Dylan Hosmer, Alex King, Rylan Pettus, Celeste Stedman and Daniel Won. This team advanced to semi-finals.

* James Clemens Cyber Punks – Second place in state, Open Division, Silver. Gabriel Ballard, Keegan Poell, Leif Swenson and Donovan White.

* James Clemens Gamma – Third place in state. Open Division, Silver. Angel Ashford, Isabella Canton and Sherry Yu.

* James Clemens Blue Angels — Competed in Gold Division at State level. Evan Drake, Trinh Pham, Jack Weber and Kepler Wedgeworth.

Coach Bill McIlwain directed Bob Jones to second place in the Gold Division. CyberSecurity winners were Ben Lambertson, Zane Breen, Rigel Mustakis, Andrew Park and Pranaav Satheesh.

Bob Jones is the first high school in America to have its cybersecurity program sanctioned by the Order of Sword & Shield National Honor Society (Omicron Sigma Sigma). This society is regarded widely as the oldest and most respected organization representing Cyber, Homeland Security, Intelligence, Emergency Management and Information Security disciplines.
