James Clemens Post Best Showing In School History At Cross Country State Championships: Carter And Alverson All-State Performances

MOULTON- The James Clemens cross country program posted its best showing in school history at the AHSAA Cross Country State Championships. The Jets ran into the school history books both as a team and individually.

As a team, James Clemens took fourth place in both boys and girls divisions and its best showing ever in the state meet while carving out its first ever boys All-State individual honor and third such All-State performance in girls action. The Jets also broke seven school records and 10 individual personal marks in the process under head coach Drew Bell.

Freshman Luke Alverson placed 12th out of 179 runners in Class 7A to earn All-State with a time of 15 minutes, 56.52 seconds at the 66th running of the State Championships. He is the first Jet to earn boy’s All-State honors in school history. As a team, the Jets scored 104 points to finish fourth behind state title holder Huntsville, which took the state honor with 54 points. Bob Jones earned a ninth place finish scoring 275 points.

In girls and their 49th annual event, eighth grader Ella Carter became the third Lady Jet to pick up an All-State honor as she placed 14th among the 175 participants. Her time was 19:19.03. In team scoring, James Clemens posted 107 points to division winner Auburn who ran to a 68 point total. Sparkman was No. 15 with 403 points.

The AHSAA held it season finale at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park and Museum in Moulton.
