School officials address rumored threat at Liberty Middle School

Many parents of Liberty Middle School students took to social media Monday afternoon when their children returned from school telling about a rumored threat. By Monday night, school officials sent the following email:

“Many parents and students have reached out to us concerning a rumor about a student bringing a weapon to school. This rumor continues to be investigated by LMS, the Madison Police, and district administrators. Our joint investigation has found no evidence of a threat towards LMS or any evidence that a weapon has been brought to campus. At LMS safety is our top priority and any reported threat towards the school, students, or staff is taken extremely seriously. We appreciate the reports that have been made and want to assure you that safeguards are in place to maximize safety and learning.”

Some parents reported they checked their children out of school early Monday after hearing about the rumor. Officials did not say what triggered the rumor, but parents speculated on social media it involved an ongoing conflict between some students at the school.

We will have more as updates become available.
