St. John Paul II Catholic High School kicks off 25th anniversary year with family festival this weekend

HUNTSVILLE – St. John Paul II Catholic High School kicks off its year-long 25th Anniversary celebration with a weekend dedicated to Faith, Family and Fun. On Friday, October 22, a school-wide Feast Day Mass will honor the school’s patron, St. John Paul II, the first pope who was widely recognized as one of the 20th century’s most important world leaders.

On Saturday, Oct. 23, the school will celebrate its phenomenal 25-year growth with an exciting Festival showcase, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the school grounds. JPII invites past, present, and future members of its Falcon family, as well as the entire Madison-Huntsville community, to attend free-of-charge and enjoy games, performances, hands-on activities, and demonstrations.

The featured event for the Festival will be a 2.5K Fun Run, sponsored by JPII’s Parent Association. The run is scheduled for 8:30 am on the school grounds. Immediately following, the Knights of Columbus will provide breakfast for runners and their families.

In addition, a classic car collector will display several of his most prized automobiles, a community service Blood Drive will take place, and the National Guard will bring their popular Rock Wall, Gladiator Pit, and Basketball Goal.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m., students from a variety of classes, clubs, and athletic teams will join forces to provide a range of activities with support from parents, faculty, and staff. The National Art Honor Society and the Art class will offer balloon dart art, as well as a pottery demonstration. JPII coaches and athletes will provide kick-a-field goal, football toss, soccer goal, cornhole, basketball goal, and “ducks in a pool”. JPII Cheerleaders will do face painting.

Additional class and teacher-led games and activities will include bingo, frisbee golf, math puzzles, rocket launches, a photoprops booth, and tie dye for t-shirts. The Alumni Department will demonstrate how to make balloon animals and give away samples. They will also hold a name-that-falcon photo contest.

Happy Pappi Beignets, New South Hot Dog & Sushi, Teresita’s Tamales, and One Buck Ice Cream food trucks will be available for on-site purchase. Entertainment from the Band, Choir, Falcon Players, Dance Team, and Colorguard is scheduled throughout the day.

St. John Paul II Catholic High School’s mission is to develop students in spirit, mind, and body through a Christ-centered, college preparatory education. As a welcoming community of faith, JPII encourages, challenges, and supports its students to learn enthusiastically, lead honorably, and live responsibly so they will improve themselves and society through their faith and vocation.
