Downtown Huntsville Library will be closed for 7-10 days after electrical failure

HUNTSVILLE – Cindy Hewitt, the executive director of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library System, said Thursday morning that Tuesday’s power outage at their downtown Huntsville location caused other issues postponing the library’s reopening.

“On Tuesday morning, there was a power outage at the Downtown Huntsville Library. When the power was restored, a surge caused the electrical panel to fail. Major repairs are needed on the electrical system before this location can reopen. This may take 7-10 days,” Hewitt said. “Because our network servers are on another circuit, this outage does not affect the other locations.”

Hewitt added that if patrons have a book on hold at downtown location, the pick up point has been moved to the North Huntsville Library, located on Sparkman Drive.

“We will keep our website updated on the status of the repairs,” she said. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
