Fantasy Playhouse opens season with ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’

HUNTSVILLE – Fantasy Playhouse is opening its 61st season with a lineup of shows that will generate an exciting return to the stage at the Playhouse of the Von Braun Center.

Season tickets now are on sale for two of the most popular stories in children’s fantasy, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Alice in Wonderland,” along with the traditional favorite, “A Christmas Carol.”

As a season extra, “Dr. Osborn and his Magical Laboratory” will appear on Oct. 23 in the VBC Playhouse.

Redstone Federal Credit Union is presenting sponsor for the 61st season.

In “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Charlie Bucket checks his golden-ticket adventure of pure imagination. The show relates lessons in kindness, humility, perseverance and dangers of greed as Willy Wonka finally opens the gates of his world-famous Chocolate Factory. The show is suitable for all ages.

Showtimes are Oct. 15 at 7 p.m., along with Oct. 16 and Oct. 17 at 1 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $21 for adults and $16 for three- through 18-year-olds. Two-year-olds and younger attend free if sitting on a parent’s lap.

“Dr. Osborn’s Magical Laboratory” will reprise its excitement for two shows on Oct. 23 at 2 and 5 p.m. Dr. Osborn will bring his annual bag of Halloween tricks and treats to the Fantasy Arts Center for two shows only.

This family, fun-filled event will be complete with balloons, magic, comedy and more shenanigans. The show is perfect for all ages.

In “A Christmas Carol,” businessman Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve receives a haunting visit from the ghost of his old business partner, Jacob Marley. The classic Dickens’ tale portrays the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future as Scrooge undertakes a supernatural journey. He learns what truly matters in life.

“A Christmas Carol” shows will be available on Dec. 3-5 and on Dec. 10-12. The show is suitable for six-year-olds and older.

The first show for 2022, “Alice in Wonderland” is the theatrical retelling of Lewis Carroll’s classic with all the fun and zany characters of the original story. An entourage of performers seek Alice during her tour in Wonderland. All ages can enjoy this play.

Fantasy Playhouse will stage “Alice in Wonderland” on Feb. 18-20, 2022.
