Family celebration will be held Saturday in Madison subdivision

Siblings Ella Jo and Andy Romines read one of the books to be available at Mrs. Molly’s Sidewalk Library. The nearly completed library is in the background. The ribbon cutting for the library will be part of a free Summer Celebration the community is invited to attend Saturday, June 5, 11:30-1:30.

MADISON – A  free family summer celebration and grand opening for a sidewalk library will be held in Madison June 5 starting at 11:30 a.m. The community is invited. It will be held within the Oxford subdivision, located on County Line Road.

According to the event’s organizer Dr. Molly King, the festivities will take place in the center of the neighborhood, in the 3rd block of Lena Cain Blvd.

“All activities, except the food truck, are free,” she said. “Meltdown Ice Cream will be on site selling cool, refreshing treats. Sarah Ragan with Keller Williams Realty Madison is sponsoring a trackless train, and David Perkins State Farm Insurance will host a bouncy house.”

The family-friendly event includes games and activities such as making bookmarks, story time, bubble fun, hula hoops, building kits from Home Depot, space-related activities conducted by the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center, and more.

Community Heroes from the police and fire departments will be part of the event, and Madison Church of Christ will host a bracelet making station. The Greater Huntsville Humane Society will be on hand with adoptions, information about their Paws for Reading Program, as well as selling some items for fundraising.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Sidewalk Library will be at 12 noon, said King. “Everyone who donates a new or gently used children’s book, to help stock the library, can put his or her name in a drawing for door prizes.”

Door prizes include gifts from Logan’s, Outback Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, Chipolte, Huntsville Botanical Gardens, Early Works, Burritt on the Mountain, Sure Save Pharmacy, Publix, and more

The first 20 people who donate a book, in addition to being eligible for door prizes, will be able to select from a work of art or a piece of jewelry (limited to one per family).

In the event of rain, the event will be postponed to later in the summer. Well-behave pets on leashes are welcome.
