Johnson trains, prepares future sailors to fight and win

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Intelligence Specialist 2nd Class Jacob Johnson from Huntsville currently serves as the Intelligence Specialist “A” School systems manager and testing officer at Information Warfare Training Command or IWTC Virginia Beach.

Johnson reported to his first operational command aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) in Norfolk, Va. During his first tour, he was promoted to Third Class Petty Officer and provided indications and warnings of contacts of interest using multi-source intelligence to support operational readiness in command leadership.

In November 2017, Johnson was promoted to Second Class Petty Officer and played a pivotal role in reestablishing USS George Washington’s Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist program. He also served as subject matter expert for meteorology, oceanography and intelligence departments.

Following his tour aboard USS George Washington, Johnson completed the Naval Instructor Training Course and reported to IWTC Virginia Beach as an instructor for IS “A” School.

Johnson also earned his master training specialist designation and continues to help his shipmates with their qualifications.

“Serving as an instructor at IWTC Virginia Beach has been a highlight of my career and has further motivated me to strive for excellence in every endeavor. I am both humbled and honored to work in close proximity with some of the most knowledgeable and versatile intelligence professions that the fleet has to offer,” Johnson said.

Currently, IWTC Virginia Beach offers 59 courses of instruction in information technology, cryptology and intelligence. The support staff has 278 military, civilian and contract members. More than 6,600 students receive training annually at five sites in the Hampton Roads area.

With four schoolhouse commands, a detachment, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan, the Center for Information Warfare Training or CIWT trains approximately 26,000 students every year, delivering trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services.
