Achieve Training Center offers free instruction in career choices

MADISON COUNTY – Achieve Training Center offers instruction in job skills, completely free of charge, for people who are willing to put in the work to create a career.

Achieve Training Center is one of the programs that Christian Job Corps offers. The corps is a non-profit, faith-based agency for women and men in need to equip themselves for life and employment through job-readiness classes, computer classes, Bible study and mentoring.

More than 69 percent of companies are reporting talent shortages in the skilled trades, meaning better paying work is available, Program Director Ron Wicks said.

Center students no longer have to ask, “Am I stuck in a job that barely pays the bills?” With Achieve Training Center, men from all backgrounds have an opportunity to learn in-demand job skills that will lead to a well-paying career in the trades, electronics and software development.

The center has the support of trained volunteers and staff, uses financial contributions from supporters and relies on guidance from its board of directors. Christian Job Corps of Madison County is committed to assisting area women and men become self-sufficient by equipping them with essential educational, employment and life skills so that they can become viable contributors to the community.

Each student is assigned a mentor, who is committed to a one-on-one relationship to help build the student’s self-esteem, self-confidence and skills essential to success in life and at work.

“Imagine being stuck in a job that pays the bare minimum, only to clock out and head to another low-paying job just to make ends meet,” Wicks said. “You want to learn a skilled trade or another high-demand skill, but you simply don’t have the time or money.” Achieve Training Center can answer these needs.

“We’re currently accepting applications for our inaugural class,” Wicks said. “We know are a lot of folks would love to be in this type of program. We just have to find them.”

To get started, an interested person should complete the application available at achievetrainingcenter.com. Click “Application” in the dropdown menu. Applicants can fill out the form online or download/print the form and return to 233 Stokes St. in Huntsville.

Admission into Achieve Training requires a background check and drug test at the center’s expense. Students will be suspended if a drug or alcohol addiction occurs. A negative COVID-19 test at center expense is required before attending classes, along with compliance with all COVID-19 safety protocols.
