Gary Glassman Earns All-American Honor

MADISON- Martin Methodist College of nearby Pulaski, Tenn., has a pair of players from its men’s golf team that have been named to the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars team in honor of their success on both the golf course and in the classroom.

Justin John of South Fulton, Tenn. and Madison’s Gary Glassman were each notified of their placed on the elite team. Glassman said he saw the announcement on the school’s Facebook page. “It was surprising and unexpected to find out and what a great honor it is to be honored in this way,” said Glassman, 23.

The upcoming senior flourished in his junior season with the RedHawks after transferring to the school from Jefferson State Community College. He posted a season-long 77.59 average score advancing in better scores throughout the season, which was cut short last spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He recently won a tournament on the U.S. Amateur Tour at the Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Miss.

“It was awesome to go and watch them compete at such a high level, both on the course and in the classroom,” said Tim King, head coach of the RedHawks golf team. “I look forward to seeing what they can do during their senior campaigns.”

Glassman will carry a 3.8 grade point average into his senior school year while studying business management and made both the school’s President’s List and the 10-member All-Academic Team for the NAIA Southern States Conference.

“I love the idea I’ve been recognized for both my athletic and academic work as I knew I was doing pretty well in both areas,” said Glassman. “Actually I didn’t know I was on that level.”

The son of David and Kim Glassman, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound multi-sport athlete was once a star goalie in ice hockey and currently plays among an elite Tournament Softball League sharing playing time at both third and second base. He credits his parents in sending him on his athletic journey. “I’d like to thank Coach King for his great help and my longtime golf coach, Billy Eastep of the Madison Golf Center. I couldn’t have done any of this without them all.”
