James Clemens Baseball hosts ‘Best Buddies Night’

MADISON – Players with James Clemens High School Jets Baseball demonstrated their inclusive spirit, on and off the field, by hosting a special evening devoted to special group of people.

James Clemens Jet Baseball hosted “Best Buddies Night” at its baseball game on campus on March 13. “Best Buddies is a group that provides opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or IDD,” community volunteer Kristen Kulavich said.

Jets baseball players treated members of the Madison chapter of Best Buddies to a double-header between the James Clemens Jets and the Cullman High School Bearcat teams. In between games, the Jets invited the Best Buddies on the field at home plate for acknowledgment as the first elementary, middle and high school chapter in the state of Alabama.

Best Buddies also played catch with Jets Baseball players and took the field with the starters for “The National Anthem.” Best Buddies then took their seats in the stands and were treated to popcorn and drinks while enjoying the second game.

Best Buddies is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating one-to-one friendships for people with intellectual disabilities, Kulavich said.
