Madison Academy Advances To Class 5-A State Championship Basketball Game
BIRMINGHAM- The Madison Academy girls basketball team is returning to the Class 5A State Championship Game for the fourth year in a row on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
The Lady Mustangs slugged Shelby County (27-5) 65-40 in a semi-finals matchup at the Legacy Arena inside the Birmingham-Jefferson County Civic Center. Destinee McGhee had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the 31-4 team into the state finals. Jaden Langford also had nine rebounds along with 10 poins while sophomore Libby Privett added 12 points and five rebounds in the game. Nequoia Adams had 10 points of her own in the game.
Madison Academy led 35-15 at halftime and the outcome was never in doubt.
The Lady Mustangs will face undefeated Charles Henderson (28-0), who spanked Center Point (22-6) 68-28 in the other semi-final matchup, in the state title game.
Madison Academy lost in last year’s state championship game 68-65 to Central-Tuscaloosa.
