Help with Christmas wreaths on Pearl Harbor Day

MADISON – On Dec. 7, residents can assist members of Madison American Legion, Post 229 in placing Christmas wreaths on veterans’ graves.

“We are placing wreaths at veterans’ gravesites in four Madison cemeteries on Saturday the seventh of December,” Larry Vannoy said. Vannoy serves as Post Commander of Post 229 in Madison.

“The seventh of December is Pearl Harbor Day. We are going to have one of our World War II veterans place the first wreath in a ceremony as we start,” Vannoy said.

Volunteers, young and old of any age, can report to Madison Memory Garden on Hughes Road just north of Madison City Hall at 9:45 a.m. Parking will be available at a strip mall beside and across the street from the cemetery.

“We will start placing the wreaths at 10 a.m.,” Vannoy said. “Your participation is greatly appreciated.” About 550 wreaths show the breadth of this project with Madison American Legion.
