Byrn returns to Madison Public Library with ‘Skillet Love’

MADISON – Madison Public Library will welcome the return visit of “New York Times” Best-Selling Author Anne Byrn on Nov. 5.

Byrn will lead a community conversation for her latest book, “Skillet Love, From Steak to Cake: More than 150 Recipes in One Cast-Iron Pan.” Earlier this year In Madison, she led another presentation for her popular book, “The Cake Mix Doctor.”

Bryn’s session on Nov. 5 will start at noon. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Huntsville Library Foundation is sponsoring the acclaimed food writer’s meeting.

In her latest cookbook, Byrn has curated more than 150 recipes that a cook can prepare in one simple 12-inch, cast-iron skillet. Throughout her discussion, she will scatter fun tidbits about the origin of the cast-iron skillet and the ways to properly season and care for the cookware.

She will conduct a book signing after her talk.

“Who knew you could make so much amazing food in one 12-inch cast iron skillet?” publicist Kamrun Nesa said. “Anne’s dishes are truly revelatory from snacks, breakfast, breads, veggies, main dishes and many, many desserts.”

“Skillet Love” is Byrn’s delicious celebration of this pan and its health benefits when cooking. She believes a cook can use the skillet for everything from eggs and searing meat to roasting whole dinners and serving up dessert warm from the oven.

In “Skillet Love”, Byrn shares her expert techniques, including ten principles of cast-iron cooking, care/maintenance, seasoning a skillet and 15 fast ways to use the pan. “She also delves into the history of its importance in American cooking, use in both home and professional kitchens, and milestones over the years,” Nesa said.

The following dishes are examples of 150-plus curated recipes for a 12-inch cast-iron skillet:

* Potato Onion Latkes with Cucumber Raita, Last-Minute Scalloped Potatoes, Skillet Macaroni & Cheese.

* Grilled Cheese A Dozen Ways, Fried Green-Tomato BLTs.

* Breads, English muffins, biscuits and buns, Including Black-Skillet Cornbread.

* Sticky Chicken Thighs with Ginger and Garlic, Skillet Salmon Two Ways, Sunday-Night Cheeseburgers.

* Georgia Burnt Caramel Cake, Brown-Sugar Skillet Blondies, Black And Blueberry Crumble.

Tickets to “Skillet Love” are $25 each; each ticket includes one copy of “Skillet Love.” A boxed lunch is offered for $10. For tickets, visit huntsvillelibraryfoundation.org/tickets.
