Bob Jones welcomes Hall of Fame inductees

MADISON – Bob Jones High School has inducted four more individuals into its Hall of Fame.

Assistant Principal Amy Thaxton said the inductees serve as role models for current and future Bob Jones students.

KEN CLARK served as a coach for Bob Jones Youth Wrestling from 2003 to 2013 and has supported Bob Jones Wrestling for 14 years and played a significant role with state champions’ successes. Clark was varsity assistant in the only section championship in Bob Jones history and assisted with 2018 duals state championship.

For four years, Clark has worked with Coach Matt Sweatman to lead off-season programs and helped produce 12 state placers and one state champion. Clark and wife Nansi live in Madison.

SAVANNAH PEGG DEMEESTER attended Madison City Schools and graduated from Bob Jones in 2006. At the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Demeester earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood/elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership.

Demeester taught for eight years in Madison County Schools and then fifth-graders at Columbia Elementary School. She was assistant coach for Bob Jones Varsity Volleyball and founded Madison Volleyball Club for 10- through 18-year-olds.

Currently, Demeester is an assistant principal at Rainbow Elementary School. She and husband Kyle of Madison are parents of daughter Ava Grace and son Hudson.

CONNIE SPEARS served with Madison Board of Education for 10 years. She volunteered with MCS Instructional Committee; Capital Planning and Finance Committee; and as legislative liaison.

With Alabama Association of School Boards, Spears was named District 9 Director on the Board of Directors. She co-chaired AASB Advocacy and earned Master School Board Member status with academy training hours. She earned commendation from Alabama House of Representatives for professional achievement in 2015 and 2019.

Spears advocated for renovation at Bob Jones and co-chairs Madison Forward Committee. She and husband Richard are parents of two sons.

ALLEN STROUD graduated from Bob Jones in 2006 and Auburn University in 2011. In 2016, Stroud entered broadcast journalism with WAFF-TV. An award-winning journalist, Stroud covers stories affecting North Alabama, industry, education, politics and Huntsville’s role in space exploration.

Stroud has contributed to morning live shots, breaking news, “Friday Night Fever” and sports pieces. He launched “48 Flashback” and “Scenes of the Season.” Stroud sometimes returns to Bob Jones’ campus to speak with journalism hopefuls.

Hall of Fame inductees will serve as Grand Marshals at the Bob Jones Homecoming Parade on Sept. 12, followed by a reception. Inductees also will be honored at halftime during the homecoming game with Florence High School on Sept. 13 at Madison City Schools Stadium.
