HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Trojans make Bob Jones pay for early lead

MADISON – Third-ranked 6A team Muscle Shoals made the 7A Bob Jones Patriots pay for jumping out to an early 9-0 lead in the game’s first four minutes. The Trojans posted 31 consecutive points in a 46-19 win at Madison City Schools Stadium.

The Trojan’s Logan Smothers showed why is a Nebraska commit running for three scores and tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Ty Smith as Muscle Shoals improved to 2-0.

 The Patriots, 0-2 for only the third time since 1994, recorded a safety and then a 49-yard touchdown drive to lead 9-0 with 8:07 remaining in the first.

For the touchdown, Caden Rose hit Slate Alford on a 5-yard play with 8:07 left in the first quarter.

Bob Jones wouldn’t touch the scoreboard again until the third quarter while the Trojans answered with 31 points. They would extend that lead with two more touchdowns and a 2-point conversion before the middle of the fourth quarter.

The Patriots will host cross-city rival and region foe James Clemens (0-2) at Madison City Stadium on Friday.
