Apollo 11K Race To Be Held September 15 At Palmer Park

MADISON- To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon landing of 1969, Fleet Feet of Huntsville is hosting a special “space race” with start and finish at Palmer Park in Madison.

The Apollo 11K will be held Sunday, September 15 and will include 11K, 5K and 1K races. The action will begin at 7:45 a.m. with the 1K race, followed by the 11K at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K at 8:05 a.m. Fees are $40 for the 11K, $30 for the 5K and $20 for the 1K with special T-shirt for each participant.

The Apollo 11k mission statement is – To honor the memory of Apollo 11 and everyone past, present and future involved in space exploration.

The start will be held inside the confines of Palmer Park and will go north along Bradford Creek for a turnaround at Bradford Creek Trailhead near Heritage Elementary School. At the turnaround, the course goes south on the same route ending back at Palmer Park.

Fleet Feet of Huntsville is so excited about the race they are offering race medals and T-shirts to those who are unable to participate and register as a “virtual runner.” That information along with regular registration is available on-line at www.fleetfeethuntsville.com.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Madison Rotary Club.

The race promises to present the same type of excitement and enthusiasm the moon landing astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins brought the entire world that sparkling time of July, 1969.
