Military coalition sponsors ‘Tell Me a Story’ at library
MADISON – Youngsters and their parents can deepen their appreciation for reading during “Tell Me a Story” at Madison Public Library, 142 Plaza Blvd.
The Military Child Education Coalition is sponsoring the session for reading and discussion on April 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tell Me a Story will be free to attend and open to the public for parents and their children from 4 to 12 years old.
The non-profit Military Child Education Coalition strives to confirm inclusive, quality educational opportunities for all children affected by mobility, family separation and transition.
At Tell Me a Story, Robert V. Parker, Superintendent of Madison City Schools, will serve as featured speaker in reading “Click, Clack, Moo – Cows That Type” to the audience. Doreen Cronin is the book’s author, and Betsy Lewin is illustrator.
“Click, Clack Moo – Cows that Type” tells the story of Farmer Brown’s cows getting a typewriter to address their ideas about changes that the farm needs. The story uses honor to show ways to solve problems and what can happen when different groups cooperate and compromise, according to MCS Public Relations Manager John S. Peck.
Following the reading, attendees will break into small discussion groups. Facilitators will lead the groups in exploring ways that stories can open discussion of potentially difficult topics. Issues raised in the book include fairness, equity, citizenship, kindness and gratitude.
Registration is required. The first 50 families to register will receive a free, hardcover book to take home from the event. To register, visit Facebook/Madison City Schools for the link.
The Military Child Education Coalition has defined its goals as recognizing, supporting and providing appropriate feedback for the academic, social and emotional needs of military-connected children. Parents and other supporting adults have made a commitment to prepare military-connected children as college-, workforce- and life-ready.
