Dodgeball Tournament To Assist James Clemens Baseball

MADISON- The 2004 motion picture “Dodgeball” brought to the forefront the game most played growing up. Players on two teams try and throw balls at opposing players while avoiding to be hit themselves. The local version of the fierce and fun competition will take place on Saturday, Dec. 15 as the third annual Airborne Attack Dodgeball Tournament will be held at James Clemens High to benefit the school’s baseball program.

“Each member of the James Clemens baseball team roster are required to enter a team in either male, female or co-ed divisions,” said Megan Moore, a committee member for the event. “Most teams will be made up of students, but like year’s event that featured 40 teams, adult teams and players are also part of the action.”

The competition is open to students in the seventh grade and older with no age limit. Cash prizes will be awarded to the final four teams along with lots of other prizes from local businesses given away to many of those playing    in the day-long event.

Major sponsors are Chick-fil-A and Stars and Strikes Getaway-N-Play of Huntsville.

Each team can be comprised of 8-10 members with a registration fee of $200. Walkups are welcomed the day of the event and will be placed on a team that currently has an open spot on its roster. Each participant will receive a goody bag. Spectators are welcomed to attend for a $5 admission and the concession stand inside the gymnasium will be open beginning with breakfast.

“Proceeds from this fun event go directly to the baseball team and its efforts for the facility improvements including better field drainage and up-to-date batting cages,” said Moore. “We’ll have lots of prizes to give away. Even one for best team uniform.”

Basic rules of dodgeball will be followed. Most experienced players know the “Five D’s of Dodgeball”- dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge.

Registration is available on the baseball team’s website- www.jcjetsbaseball.com.
