Madison County runs over New Hope

NEW HOPE — Madison County relied on its strong running game and big plays Friday in a 27-7 win over New Hope.

The win snapped the Class 5A Tigers’ two-game losing streak as they improved to 2-4 overall; the Class 3A Indians fall to 0-5.

“Our guys played hard and it’s great to get a win,” said Tigers Head Coach Scott Sharp. “I’m proud of our guys for overcoming some adversity and continuing to fight.”

Freshman Isaiah Perdue scored on touchdown runs of 17 yards, 30 yards and 55 yards and junior running back Mekhi Burdette had a 92-yard touchdown run.

The Tigers return to Region 8 competition Friday at Scottsboro (4-1, 1-1).

“We have a big challenge in facing Scottsboro this week as we get back in region play,” Sharp said.
