McGhee boosts Jets to third straight win

FLORENCE – Austin McGhee scored four touchdowns Friday night to lift James Clemens to a 47-33 region win over Florence.

The win was the third straight for the Jets (3-2, 3-0), who remain unbeaten in Class 7A Region 4. The Falcons fall to 2-3, 1-2.

McGhee’s 30-yard touchdown run with about 2 minutes to play clinched the game for the Jets as Florence rallied with a pair of fourth quarter scores. The Jets led 27-19 at the half and 40-19 after three quarters.

Quarterback Jamil Muhammad connected with McGhee on a 32-yard touchdown pass in the first half and a 29-yard catch-and-run in the third quarter. Muhammad also scored in the first half on a 1-yard run and an 11-yard run.

Dylan Blackburn broke loose for a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give the Jets the 40-19 lead.

James Clemens is off next Friday and visits Gadsden City on Oct. 5.
