Historical society donates to Madison Public Library

ADISON – Members of Madison Station Historical Preservation Society recently toured Madison Public Library’s new facility and showed its appreciation for the library’s contributions to the community.

The historical society conducted its February meeting at the library’s new facility at 142 Plaza Blvd. Amanda Campbell, Assistant Branch Manager, led a guided tour for the society members to see the library’s new features and equipment.

Historical society members saw the garage-style doors that raise and open to allow for patio meetings. They viewed the room space dedicated for fully automated receiving and sorting of books and other library materials.

“We toured the state-of-the-art media room with a 3-D printer, plotter and CNC cutting machine and the children’s quiet area,” Charlie Nola said. Nola is Secretary of Madison Station Historical Preservation Society. “There are 18 laptops that can be checked out for use within the facility.”

A non-traditional configuration that is similar to a ‘book store’ layout has improved the ease of finding “just what you are looking for, whether it’s a new bestselling fiction book or a classic movie on DVD,” Campbell said.

Tommy Overcash, President of Madison City Council, explained to the visitors that the new library is “10,000 square feet larger than the old facility and was one of the best construction projects in Madison, coming in on schedule and under budget.”

At the tour’s conclusion, society members presented a cash donation for the library to Campbell.

Madison Station Historical Preservation Society promotes the preservation of architecturally and historically significant buildings and sites located within the City of Madison. The group restores and preserves historically significant artifacts and furthers the knowledge of organization members and the public about historical values within the Madison area. The society is a non-profit organization.
