ReadyFest to prepare residents for unexpected

MADISON – Madison ReadyFest 2018 has one prominent message: “When life happens, you need a plan!”

Madison ReadyFest can help secure the entire family for unexpected situations in everyday life — from preparation for a severe weather event, to financial safety and during a health crisis.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1297 Slaughter Road in Madison will host the community preparedness fair, which his free to the public. Demonstrations and exhibits will be open on April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Madison ReadyFest.

“I hope the atmosphere of ReadyFest builds a sense of community and optimism, as well as an awareness of resources and knowledge that are available in our community,” Madison ReadyFest Chairman Rebecca Brown said. “Our leaders our amazing, dedicated people who want to make Madison a better place to live.”

“I would like to think each of us can make Madison a little better by improving our self, our family and our community,” Brown said.

The City of Madison, Madison Police Department and Madison Fire and Rescue Department are supporting the event by giving presentations. More than 20 informational booths and exhibits will be available for promotional materials and facts.

Six guest speakers will lead ‘mini-classes,’ covering various topics, such as financial planning, medical screening, natural disasters, child safety, self-defense, career networking, water filtration, food storage, health/fitness and gardening.

Brad Travis, Chief Meteorologist at WAFF Channel 48, will serve as featured speaker at Madison ReadyFest. “Severe weather never happens exactly the way we forecast so you should always be prepared and alert to changing weather conditions,” Travis said. “Make sure you have multiple ways to stay informed: weather app, weather radio, radio and television.”

“It’s inevitable that one or two forms of communication will fail when you need it most,” Travis said.
