MCS delays opening by 2 hours on Jan. 5

MADISON – Robby Parker, Superintendent of Madison City Schools, has released an announcement about delayed opening of schools on Jan. 5:

“Parents,

“Thank you for your cooperation and understanding for the delayed school start. The delayed start allowed just enough time for the sun to make temperatures a little more tolerable for kids at the bus stops or who walk to school.

“Tomorrow’s forecast looks to be even colder than this morning, with early morning temps in the low teens and wind chills in the single digits. Therefore, we are delaying the start of school again for 2 hours on Friday: Pre-K – 9:55 a.m.; Elementary – 9:40 a.m.; Middle School – 10:05 a.m.; and High School – 10:15 a.m.

“My loyalties lie 100% with our kids, and all decisions are made with them, first and foremost, in mind.

“Buses will wait at each bus stop a little longer than normal. Principals have been asked to have a lenient tardy policy, in case a parent has to make alternative transportation plans. The weekend outlook shows a slight warming trend, so hopefully we will be back on a normal school schedule next week.”
