Limestone democrats prepare for 2018 election
MADISON, LIMESTONE COUNTY – The Democratic Party of Limestone County wasted no time in the new year for a qualifying kick-off event for elected offices in Limestone County that will be open in 2018.
The event was held at the Limestone County Democratic Party Headquarters, 22143 U.S. 72 E. on Jan. 2.
Michael L. Smith, Chairman of Limestone County Democrats, hopes to promote participation among residents who live within Madison city limits in Limestone County. These individuals qualify to vote in Limestone County elections.
“We invited people from all walks of life who live in Limestone County to join the growing list of Democratic candidates,” Smith said. “We are an inclusive organization. Whether you are young or old, rich or poor, male or female, or of any race, you need to be represented among our elected leaders.”
“We ask only that you are passionate about serving the needs of the people you will represent,” Smith said. “Our party has set a goal to give the public a choice in every open office in 2018, and we are working hard to accomplish it.”
Democratic candidates in upcoming elections will receive ongoing guidance in campaigning, fundraising, communications and team building. “The deadline for qualifying as a Democratic candidate is Feb. 9,” Smith said.
Events like the kick-off at Limestone County Democratic Party Headquarters serve to inform residents who want to learn about county offices, campaigns, roles of political parties and how to become active in a campaign. “The more people who are involved in this process, and the more the public knows about our goals and methods, the better decisions we all can make at the polls,” Smith said.
Offices open in Limestone County in 2018 are Probate Judge, Sheriff, License Commissioner, Coroner, Circuit Court Clerk, County Commission Chairperson, County Commissioner District 1 and District 3 and County School Board District 6 and 7.
