Shubert charged with ramming 2 police cars, assault

MADISON – Kyle Shubert of Madison has been charged with two counts of assaulting police officers (assault 2nd), after allegedly ramming two police cars.

In addition, Shubert faces charges of fleeing and attempting to elude police officers and resisting arrest.

On Oct. 1 at approximately 6:30 p.m., two Madison police officers responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute near Miller Boulevard and Mahan Drive. One of the officers arrived at the scene and encountered a male alleged involved in the dispute driving past the residence in a truck.

As the officer prepared to turn around and try to pull over the truck, the suspect driver made a U-turn, came back and rammed the police car. The car was disabled, and the officer was injured.

A second officer pursued the truck on Miller Boulevard. Near the intersection of Miller Boulevard and Hickory Ridge Drive, the suspect stopped in the middle of the roadway. The suspect then backed up and rammed the second police car with his Ford F250 pickup truck, pushing the officer’s car in reverse down the hill.

The officer fired shots through his windshield into the back of the pickup truck in an attempt to stop the threat. The rounds did not strike the driver of the truck, and he fled on foot.

Several officers arrived and captured the subject in a nearby yard. He has been identified as 33-year-old Kyle Shubert of Madison.

Both officers were treated for their injuries at local hospitals and released.

Shubert was booked into the Madison County Jail on a $60,686 bond. He was arrested on probable cause and is considered innocent until deemed otherwise by a court of law, according to a police spokesperson.

Both officers that were struck by the suspect are on administrative leave until they are ready to return to duty. Madison Police Department is investigating the incident.

City of Madison Police Department’s address is 100 Hughes Road. Call 911 for emergencies. For situations that are not emergencies, call 256-772-5658.
