King, Lynn excel in archery at World Deer Expo
MADISON – Two members of the Liberty Middle School Archery Team earned first-place wins at the recent Bowmania contest, the largest indoor 3D archery tournament in the Southeast.
Chase Lynn won first place in the National Archery in School Program or NASP category. Liberty Team Captain Alex King ranked in first place in the Youth Traditional category.
The Bow Hunters of Alabama sponsored Bowmania at the 35th World Deer Expo and featured competitors from across the United States and other countries. The event was held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.
“Chase Lynn let out an excited cheer when he won, as this was his first time to win first-place honors for the season and his first 3D tournament,” assistant volunteer coach Molly King said. “Chase and Alex also volunteered over 20 hours each at the three-day event in setting up, helping run ranges, teaching new archers how to shoot and cleaning up.”
In addition, King and Lynn both enjoyed teaching adult archers from England, South Africa and Israel how to shoot a bow. The Liberty students visited with more than 1,000 vendors from across the world. They also had time to pursue bungee jumping, seeing live exotic animals and just sightseeing at the large event of this sport.
Having completed its inaugural year, the Liberty Archery Team will lose some members by attrition. However, the older archers can pursue new skill tests and camaraderie at James Clemens High School. The returning archery members are anticipating enrollment of new members from local elementary schools.
The Liberty team is especially excited about possible team members from Mill Creek Elementary School’s team, coached by Jennifer Klein,” Molly King said. “Mill Creek qualified for and participated in the 2017 World Championship for the National Archery in the Schools Program.”
