Choruses to present ‘American workforce’ concert

MADISON – Southern Splendor Chorus and Rocket City Barbershop Chorus will present their “Get a Job – Celebrating the American Workforce” concert on June 17.

Trinity Baptist Church at 1088 Hughes Road will host the concert at 4 p.m.

In addition, three other barbershop quartets tentatively have agreed to sing. ”We will be singing tunes familiar to all, such as ‘Get A Job,’ ‘I’ve Been Working on the Railroad’ and ‘Heigh-Ho! (Heigh-Ho! It’s Off to Work We Go),” Rocket City Chorus member Ralph Cobb said. “Both young kids and kids of all ages will enjoy the concert.”

Rocket City Barbershop Chorus is all-male vocal group dedicated to this music genre and to enriching members’ lives. They strive to deliver their a capella vocals in high standards for live performance.

Rocket City Chorus is the performing chorus of Huntsville Metropolitan Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. They organized in Huntsville 50-plus years ago to preserve barbershop music, which creates melodies without any instrumental accompaniment.

Southern Splendor Chorus provides a public service with its tribute to the true slice of Americana in the art form of positive, uplifting a capella music. The four-part harmony enriches the men’s lives who sing, along with the audiences who appreciate these vocal skills. (southernsplendorchorus.com)

“Southern Splendor Chorus of Athens placed third in the Dixie Division and has been awarded ‘Most Improved Chorus’ for three straight events,” Cobb said. “Rocket City Chorus is steeped in history, being in existence for 65 years. The two choruses are combining for this concert.”

For added enjoyment at the concert, the all-female group Sugah will perform. Sugah is affiliated with Sweet Adelines International Quarter.

Tickets for adults are $15. Senior citizens (55 years and older) and children who are 10 to 17 years old will pay $10. No admission will be charged for children who are nine years old and younger.

Following the concert, an afterglow will be held for the audience.
