‘Serving the City’ set for April 1
MADISON – Anyone in the community can join the ranks of hundreds of volunteers during “Serving the City as One” on April 1.
Members of numerous churches in Madison, volunteers with Inside-Out Ministries and any person who wants to help will work together to reach out in different parts of Madison in various service projects.

“Pass the word to your friends and church mates,” Deborah Ward said. Ward is Director of Operations at Inside-Out Ministries. For questions, call 256-325-5193 or email info@inside-out-ministries.org or larry@inside-outministries.org.
“Even if your church is lead on a project, we need you to register. Don’t leave them hanging without enough volunteers in case you can’t make it,” Ward said.
On April 1, participants in Serving The City Madison will gather at CrossPointe Church, 78 Hughes Road at 8:45 a.m. Around 9:15 a.m., teams will leave for their project sites.
Various types of service and cleanup opportunities are open. About 10 people will deliver boxes to Madison Hospital, Madison Fire & Rescue Department, Madison Police Department and nursing homes. A large group of people will pack those treat boxes, and this work is ‘child friendly.’
At Dublin Park and Palmer Park, two groups will work to clean restrooms. A larger team of about 25 people is needed at Madison Village assist-living community to stage a block party with games, lunch servers and leads for crafts activities.
The free car wash has openings and would be a suitable, fun project for teenagers. Eight slots are open. Another free service will be oil changes, and about 10 people are needed to work.
Slots are filling quickly for the teams tasked with home repair and building a ramp for a person who uses a wheelchair.
In a more spiritual opportunity, people can sign up for “Prayer Walking,” Ward said. Before April 1, volunteers are needed for “pre-event baking” of three dozen cookies or brownies; the bakers should package three treats in separate sandwich bags.
Deborah Ward has slots open for about 80 people to set up, serve and clean up for the community lunch.
Teams will work until 2 p.m. on April 1. For more information, visit Facebook/Serving the City as One, inside-outministries.org or Twitter @Insideout_AL.
