Stephen Mills recalls making goal with left foot

MADISON – Stephen Mills became a soccer fan and player because he believes the sport is “the world’s game.”

Stephen plays soccer for Club Independent’s Madison Arsenal U10 boys’ team. He can play defense, midfielder and/or striker. However, he will choose striker and outside midfielder if he has a choice.

In addition, he likes soccer as his favorite sport because he likes to run.

The oldest child in his family, Stephen attends Rainbow Elementary School, and he is in third grade. His brother Owen is five years old and attends a pre-kindergarten class in Madison. His brother Sam is 19 months old, and Stephen’s new baby sister is named Amelia and is two months.

In 2006, Stephen’s family moved to Madison before he was born from Saint Augustine, Fla. His father, Ryan Mills, works as a physical therapist; Ryan’s first job was here in Madison.

Q: What are your favorite restaurants?

A: Stephen’s favorite restaurants are Sunny Street Cafe, Panera Bread and Moe’s Southwest Grill.

Q: What are your favorite foods?

A: Chocolate chip muffins.

Q: What are your favorite sports teams? 

A: Stephen’s favorite sports teams are the Arsenal Gunners for soccer, Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, Florida State Seminoles and Kentucky Wildcats.  

Q: What is your favorite sports memory?

A: “Seeing Olivier Giroud scoring on a scorpion kick against Crystal Palace in soccer, and when I scored a goal with my left foot.”  

Q: What do you like to do in your free time? 

A: Playing the board game “Castle Panic” with his family, playing with his brothers, reading/learning about mythology and riding his bike.
